ArtWorks Mural
If you've recently stopped by our retail store, you may have noticed our once empty side panels (seven in all) are now bustling with a world of art and activity. We're proud to have Christian Schmit's ArtWorks MuralWorks "An Epic Tale of Time and Town."
ArtWorks is an award-winning arts program that gives talented teenagers from the Greater Cincinnati area an opportunity to work, learn, and earn in summer and after school jobs as Apprentice Artists. Working under the guidance of professional artists and art educators, Apprentices create high quality public works of art with civic value.
Christian worked with the young artists for several months guiding them through the mural's design, planning, and execution phases. It wasn't all work though; the students toured Covington landmarks such as St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica to get a better feel for the area and its architecture. The mural depicts the arts throughout Covington, including sculpture, music, and architecture.
Our mural was being created in partnership with The Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center with funding by Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr./US Bank Foundation and with additional support from Fine Arts Fund, Ohio Arts Council, and National Endowment for the Arts.
We hope you get a chance to stop by and see how the once blank wall of our warehouse has been transformed into an art canvas. In the meantime, you can enjoy this slide show of photos taken during the mural's creation.
